when i was in England many years ago, after three weeks, horror of horrors,i found myself craving for one particular Malaysian dish- koh loh mee. it isnt a particularly great favourite of mine when im back home.it's a simple dish, comprising noodles tossed in some sesame oil and sauces and served with a strand or two sawi and some mushrooms.
but over there, for some strange, unfathomable reason, i kept thinking and thinking about it, how it tasted, and how willing i would be to pay a king's ransom just to have a bowl of koh loh mee!
i'm of course not the only person with this kind of temperament. ask any Malaysian who's been abroad for longer than three weeks and he'll probably confess that he has undergone similar tendencies.

i remember many years ago, on a tour of Europe, the group members had started hankering for SPICY food after about a week ar so. we were touring Italy then and every time we entered a Chinese restaurant, we would plead with the waiter, "Please, please, can we have some red chilies?"after days of bland food, we were desperate for some kick in our food. the waiter would inevitablycome back with a plate of Hongkong-style chilli sauce (a chilli paste, fried in oil). it tasted good, but still did not have the oomphh of freshly cut chillies.
"no, no, not this chilli sauce. not shiok-lah. we want chillies, you know, red chillies," we would protest in unison.
"sorry, we dont serve those. they are much too expensive here," would be reply. we would groan in agony, mumbling and hallucinating about red-hot chillies to eat with our chinese food.

...sometimes,it's not just malaysian food that malaysians miss; it could just be an ingredient..

konpem la pasal my current life here, terengganu di hatiku. (macam tagline Uitm jeww? pfft)
nak dijadikan cer, sini majoritinya makanan ala-ala manis pedas-tak-jadi. err, faham tak? tak faham? try la dtg sini. haha. aku da promote terengganu gila-gila ni. bak mai komisyen! :P
my roomates; Sheera, Shari and I (syuha excluded) love to eat spicy food. puas tau kitorg cari makanan mcm tu kat sini. ade je yang tak kena. kejap2 manis, kejap2 takde rase, kejap2 pedas nak mammmmmmm. So, senang cer, untuk cover balik makanan yang tak sedap, ktorg akan order skali sambal belacan. the thing is KADANG-KADANG SAMBAL BELACAN HABIS. whaddetropikanaaaaaaaaaaahelikopter.

itulah satu-satunya sumber makanan pedas kami. wuuuuuu. bila restoran yang salu pergi aka Restoran S M kehabisan sambal, kami akan menerima dengan muka monyok nasi putih ayam kunyit. mintak masak pedas pon, dia pergi letak cabai 2-3 jibik. ish ishh ishh. :(
nasib baik la ada teh o ais laici. itu sumpah NIKMAT. sedap gelll. (try la, try laaaa. rasa macam air mata kucing pon ade. )
hurm, ape lah nasib. duduk je la 4 tahun kat sini dengan redha. nak tanak, kene makan banyak2. aku nak MEMBESAR. haha!
